Gungahlin Leisure Centre one of six ACT venues to achieve a five-star status

When it comes to safety, Gungahlin Leisure Centre sets the industry standard, having achieved an outstanding 5-star aquatic safety accreditation following the venue’s successful Aquatic Facility Safety Assessments (AFSA).

And in a clean sweep across ACT, all six Belgravia Leisure managed ACT aquatic venues have received 5-star aquatic safety accreditations, with Gungahlin Leisure Centre and Lakeside Aquatic Centre notably achieving a 100% 5-star score.

These venues include:

  • Stromlo Leisure Centre
  • Canberra Olympic Pool
  • Gungahlin Leisure Centre
  • Lakeside Leisure Centre
  • Erindale Leisure Centre
  • Dickson Pool

This reinforces Belgravia Leisure as an industry leader in aquatic safety, achieving outstanding results far surpassing the national compliance industry average.

“We’re incredibly proud to achieve a 5-star aquatic safety accreditation at Gungahlin Leisure Centre, alongside all ACT venues managed by Belgravia Leisure. This recognition reflects our unwavering commitment to safety and the hard work of our team to ensure the highest standards for our community,” said Nicole Trindorfer, Venue Manager at Gungahlin Leisure Centre.

Scott Vanderheyden, General Manager – Health and Safety at Belgravia Leisure, says it takes momentum, commitment and an ‘always on’ approach to maintain such high safety standards at a venue.

“At Belgravia Leisure, we strive every day to implement the ‘Think Safe, Act Safe, Be Safe’ methodology, which is the cornerstone of our positive, accountable and proactive safety culture.

“Our intensive training programs, mystery guest assessments and cross-regional collaboration have driven continuous improvement and innovation in aquatic risk management this year. We’ve never been more committed to raising the bar for safety and compliance, ensuring safer places to swim for communities across Australia and New Zealand.

“While we are proud of our results, there is always more work to be done. With a strong foundation for continued improvement and innovation in aquatic risk management, we are well positioned to keep elevating safety standards. I’m proud to work for a company that leads the industry in aquatic safety, where health and safety are non-negotiable priorities.”

The AFSA is designed to provide swimming pool operators with a comprehensive overview of their safety standards. The assessment enables the development of a detailed report benchmarked against a range of industry, state and national standards, guidelines and legislative provisions.
